Training For The Trek

Preparation is key for a superb Kokoda Track trekking experience.

Walking the Kokoda Track is a difficult undertaking. The terrain is rough and temperatures are high and humid year round. Trekkers are advised that they need to be physically and mentally fit and aware of the risks associated with this type of trek.

The Kokoda Track Authority strongly recommended that a full medical check by your doctor be undertaken prior to embarking on the trek or starting any training program. Seek specialist advice on health issues when trekking in Papua New Guinea.

Some tour companies offer a training programme for trekkers visiting Papua New Guinea, starting 6-12 months before the walk starts. A training regime spanning several months prior to departure (not necessarily with a tour company) is essential.
